Support Educator for Short-Term Homes

In our short-term homes, we provide several services for individuals with disabilities; short-term supervision, short-term stay, escorting, and respite care at home. The operation is part of the care and support sector of Skövde municipality.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

We are looking for someone who wants a rewarding and developing job. In the role of support educator within the short-term homes, you have the opportunity to contribute to ensuring that our users can achieve the highest possible quality of life. Based on individual needs and wishes, you support our users by providing practical and everyday assistance where you help them with activities, personal care, and leisure activities. The assignment also includes documentation work in our systems.

We are a team, and we support and help each other. In the role of support educator, you contribute to the operation with your valuable in-depth knowledge in the field. You are a support to colleagues in the work with social documentation. You also assist your colleagues with the development and use of individually adapted pedagogical methods that support individual participation and independence. Your role also includes monitoring the external environment to contribute to the unit's development and improvement work. You will participate in network meetings with other support educators.

Tallkottens short-term home is responsible for implementing LSS services for children and adolescents with disabilities.

The following services are relevant:

  • Short-term stay (LSS) outside the home, which means that children with disabilities temporarily stay outside their own home for shorter or longer periods.
  • Short-term supervision (LSS) for school-age youth over 12 years outside the home in connection with school days and during vacations.
  • Escort service (LSS) which means that a person with a disability receives support from an escort to enable participation in community life.
  • Respite service (LSS) means that a person who usually needs support receives relief.

Working hours vary between day, evening, and weekend, according to a schedule. Within the care and support sector, we work flexibly between different units. This means that you will also work shifts at other short-term homes within the department.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for someone with work experience in the disability field and higher vocational education as a support educator or other education that the employer assesses as equivalent. It is beneficial, but not required, if you have knowledge of conversation methodology, such as motivational interviewing (MI), social stories, or drawing talk. Other knowledge that is meritorious includes knowledge of clear pedagogical methods, low-arousal approach, and alternative and augmentative communication (AAC).

As a person, you are calm and secure and have a respectful, good, and adapted approach. To succeed in the role, we see that you have good collaboration skills, are solution-focused, and can easily adapt to new conditions. To thrive in the role, we believe you have the ability to take personal responsibility in your professional role, are proactive, and are used to working independently.

In this role, it is important that you can communicate verbally and in writing in Swedish since you and the user need to understand each other, but also to carry out documentation. You have computer skills and preferably experience with social documentation.

A B driver's license for manual transmission is a requirement.

Upon employment, a criminal record extract from the police must be presented.
